The short version
Both tools turn a recipe into a Nutrition Facts label in the FDA format, and both include recipe costing on the plans compared here. Both draw ingredient nutrition from USDA data. The main differences for a small producer are price, how recipe limits work, and how much you need beyond labels and costing.
Where KitchenSync fits better
- You want a lower monthly cost. KitchenSync Starter is $14.99/month and Growth is $29.99/month for 100 recipes. ReciPal Business is $59/month, or $49/month billed annually.
- You want to start free. The KitchenSync Free plan covers one recipe with unlimited labels and no credit card.
- You price from several suppliers. KitchenSync records prices from multiple suppliers per ingredient and costs each recipe at the best unit price (Starter and Growth).
- You reuse components. Use a recipe as an ingredient in other recipes, so a base dough or sauce carries its nutrition into every product (Starter and Growth).
- You iterate on recipes. Save linked recipe versions, mark one as primary, and see each version's label, allergens and cost.
Where ReciPal may fit better
- You need one label, once. ReciPal sells a Single Serving option at $29 per recipe as a one-time purchase, which can cost less than any subscription if you only have one product to label.
- You create many new recipes each month. ReciPal Business allows 50 recipes per month. KitchenSync limits the number of recipes you keep (25 on Starter, 100 on Growth) rather than how many you create in a month, so the better fit depends on how you work.
- You need something KitchenSync does not list. Check ReciPal's own feature pages for anything outside nutrition labels, recipe costing and USDA ingredient data, which is all this page compares.
Moving your recipes to KitchenSync
There is no import from ReciPal. To move a recipe, recreate it in KitchenSync by adding its ingredients from USDA FoodData Central, or as custom ingredients, and entering the amounts by weight or by volume. Then set the yield and serving size and compare the resulting label with your existing one. Where the numbers differ, check which USDA entry each ingredient is matched to. Start with one product on the Free plan before moving the rest. The getting started guide walks through a first recipe.
